Romi- a modern fall alarm
An aging population highlights the need for more desirable assistive products for a growing elderly consumer group. Traditional fall alarms are out-dated and stigmatised, seen as a ‘reluctant alternative to assisted living’. Romi is a modern solution, allowing users confidence and independence while avoiding the stigma of traditional assistive products.
Romi- user interaction
While most current fall alarms are limited to use in the home, Romi uses a roaming SIM with GPS to allow the user to contact help in an emergency from anywhere. Co-design focus groups with target users were vital in developing the functionality and aesthetics of a desirable assistive product. In the event of a fall where the user is unconscious or unable to manually activate it, the device is able to recognise a potential fall and automatically alerts up to 5 chosen contacts.
Romi- personal and customisable
The design aims to reduce the stigma associated with traditionally ‘medical looking’ assistive products, offering a discreet alternative which can be customised to individual style.
