A medication management system for users with decreased hand dexterity
The larger product acts as a safe storage system for the user's medication and dispenses medication into the smaller portable device for users to take with them. The medication dispensed is based on their prescription and can be updated by their consultant or GP automatically, where they can also keep track of medication compliance of the user. The portable device automatically dispenses medication for the correct time of day, as in particular, Parkinson's medication is often very time-specific.

The portable device allows users to carry on with their day-to-day lives without being controlled by medication and pill packets. It takes the worry and confusion out of often complicated prescriptions, by providing users with the correct medication at various times throughout the day. The lighting system indicates when users have taken medication and alert users when it is time to take medication.

To accompany the products an app is also available for users and family members to check prescriptions, medication compliance, and test results.
A new solution to bike sharing programmes and travel tourism
An increase in bike-sharing programmes across cities all over the world provides users with quick tours of the cities they are visiting. This solution encourages users to explore their surroundings and go to events happening near them by swiping right or left when an event shows on the handlebar screen. If the user is interested, they will be directed to the event through the screen. Events that are happening near them are collected by footfall data, social media activity, and calendared events online.
Fixperts project
Working with a user who required an arts and crafts trolley to keep his materials organised. By incorporating the user at each stage of the design process allowed us to create a solution that worked for him. Below shows a link to the Fixperts project video explaining the project.

Lydia Ines Hughes
A conscious designer with a passion for medical device design and putting the user first.
For my final year project, I looked at improving medication management for users with decreased hand dexterity, in particular Parkinson's disease. I developed a close relationship with the Leicestershire Parkinson's Support groups and met throughout the design and development of the products. Also in my final year, a small group of designers undertook a Fixperts project, where we worked with a man who suffered from muscular dystrophy. We were able to help him by designing a arts and crafts trolley for him to store his materials, something he is very passionate about. Excellent communication skills are something I pride myself on and comes in use when working directly with users to get the right solution for them.
