Reducing the probability of a re-injury to the ACL
During the first two years following an ACL injury, it is estimated that you become 6 times more likely to suffer a re-injury. This product aims to provide important new data about the user’s knee laxity in real time along with an effective EMS treatment. Allowing physiotherapists to make more informed decisions in order to customise a user’s rehabilitation and, ultimately, reduce the probability of a re-injury to the ACL.
Location
The device sits on the hamstring and using an integrated EMS device, it helps to improve Neuromuscular performance that has been weakened after the initial ACL injury.
Technology
By measuring the displacement between the two straps and comparing existing data sets, the device provides information about the wearers knee laxity and can flag up potential risks.
Development
A broad range of design methods were utilised during the project. This included: sketching and CAD along with low and high-fidelity prototypes.
Application
The app allows users to control the device remotely and follow programs set by their physiotherapists. Who can then, use the app to monitor patient progress and analyse users results.
Function
The device includes a removable EMS pad designed to fit specifically into the device. With the Base being made from layered PU obtaining different levels of stiffness, It is both flexible and comfortable.
Systems design
The product system works by providing packs of EMS pads with a range of options available. These packs are purchased separately to the main device.
Kester Page
I work hard to communicate my passion for good design through the projects I work on.
Admittingly, I do understand that £60 for a carabineer is a bit much, but it was a present. Design for me is about perusing a dynamic career for a subject that I genuinely engage with opening doors to like-minded people to generate new and exciting opportunities. I want to enjoy my job when I am old, this course seemed like the logical step.
