Ukiyo: (n.) living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life. “The Floating World”.
Ukiyo inserts the positive benefits of nature within one’s bedroom by mimicking natural sounds, lighting and scents to stimulate sleep and awakening. Whilst locking away and charging the users phone. Please follow the link; https://vimeo.com/389916926.

Live projects: Ukiyo app

Ukiyo comes along side an app which runs in parallel with the function of the product. It tracks the users sleep and keeps a record of this. This is used to suggest bed times, allowing the product to know when to flash and alert the user, when it is time to put their phone away and wind down.

The form has pulled inspiration from nature, whereby the main unit is resemblant of a pebble. This sits on a base which has the effect of ripples of water. Where the frequency between each rib has been considered to give the subtle effect of a puddle reacting, as if a stone was placed on it.

Kenya Smith

With my passion for health and sustainability at the forefront of the design process, I deliver creative and innovative products with a fresh and sleek aesthetic without compromising on functionality.

I am passionate and enthusiastic about product innovation and design. In such a fast paced world I ensure I am up to date on new products, technologies and design styles and continually analyse changes to consumer trends and lifestyles. I have a rigorous approach to designing products, my attention to detail ensures that both the functionality and aesthetics of the product are developed, evolved and refined. I have demonstrated my ability to do this within a set time frame, both during my time at university and in industry working at Switch. I have excellent communication skills and I am able to develop a rapport with clients to ensure that I can best meet their needs, a skill which I have developed whilst working at a ladies boutique (since I was 13), a catering company and a digital design agency. I work well in high pressured situations and I am efficient, proactive and a problem solver working well both in teams and independently.

Experience

I was able to study at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology for six months, as part of an Erasmus exchange. I enjoyed embedding myself in a different culture and observing the sustainability and simplicity of Scandinavian design on a daily basis. This was followed by eight months working at Switch where I developed my knowledge and experience of using software. I used 3D design and Adobe CC on a daily basis with a particular focus on: InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects and Cinema 4D.
