Neutro – a non-invasive method for cancer patients to monitor their white blood cell count
1 in 6 cancer patients become neutropenic whilst recovering from intensive treatment which leads to costly and extensive hospital stays. This device enables patients to frequently monitor their WBC count from the comfort of their own home; thus, preventing the need for emergency medical care.
Innovative technology
Innovative AI image analysis technology is leveraged to non-invasively record the patients WBC count. The user inserts their hand into the device for the duration of 1 minute and is in turn presented with their results.
Neutro app
A supporting app enables patients to visualise progression and seek medical support if required.

Jamie Merrill
I am a highly empathetic and inquisitive individual with an aptitude for creative problem solving.
I follow an iterative design process that provides user centred solutions. As a designer, I am a strong advocate for accessibility, as evident by all digital products following WCAG guidelines in order for them to be usable for 100% of customers. I have a strong desire to learn and I am able to recognise areas of my skill set that require further development. This is evident from my time working as a user experience researcher in an agile organisation, where I was able to improve on my ability to select appropriate research methods based on context and to build empathy with customers by speaking with them directly. Finally, I hope to develop as a designer by working in a collaborative team, offering my deep understanding of Adobe CC, Sketch and prototyping software in order to provide value to clients and colleagues through my work.

Experience
I identified that an area for development was my ability to conduct user research. As a result, I underwent a user experience research placement at Reed Exhibitions. My role was to support the delivery of customer insights for the organisation, through both quantitative and qualitative research methods. I was fortunate to support the creation of a research lab and engage in both 1-2-1 and focus group interviews with RX customers. Additionally, I conducted multiple at-event research studies and I was entrusted to be lead researcher at London Book Fair 2019.
