Improving and increasing cardiac monitoring and performance analysis in football [Read more]
Lupus X
Lupus X is a system of products that work together to improve the quality and efficiency of cardiac monitoring and performance analysis in football. The product features a GPS tracker with an in-built magnetometer, gyroscope and accelerometer to measure movement in all directions and generate performance related biometric data that coaches can track pitch-side in real time. The tracker slots into a breathable fabric sports vest which players wear underneath their football top. Embedded within the garment are ECG sensors allowing for constant cardiac monitoring. The linesmen’s flags are designed to help alert match officials to potential cardiac defects using visual and audio aids, allowing play to be stopped quickly and thus increasing the speed with which correct medical treatment can be provided.
Lupus X - GPS tracker and charging pod
The GPS tracker sits comfortably in a ‘docking station’ when not in use, with the in-built induction coils ensuring the tracker can remain fully charged.
Lupus X - GPS tracker
‘Lupus’ is the Latin term for a wolf – one of the world’s most effective hunters. As tracking is a stand-out feature of the product, the branding and styling was deliberately created to help send subliminal messages about the product’s intended use.
Lupus X - packaging
The two parts of the product are packaged separately: the tracker, vest, charging pod and subsequent charging cables are sold to football coaches in a ‘B2B’ sell; whereas the linesmen’s flags are sold to referees or refereeing organisations.
Lupus X - information brochure
Included within the packaging are two information brochures outlining how the product works, the installation process and tips and advice on product maintenance.
Lupus X - app
The app brings everything together. Using the information collected from the tracker, biometric data is displayed in the form of tangible performance metrics such as acceleration, distance covered, sprint speed, intensity and heat-mapping. The real-time feedback allows coaches to make more informed in-game substitutions, provide catered training plans and have a greater understanding of potential dangers posed to players at any point during the session.
brai meister
brai meister is a portable charcoal barbecue that is designed to make barbecuing on the go a more glamorous and enjoyable experience. The product features in-built modular storage compartments that help remove the need for multiple different bags - and multiple pairs of hands! The project was completed in the space of a week as part of the Loughborough Live Projects.
lugna
lugna is an interactive lighting system aimed to decrease stress and anxiety on train platforms by helping create a more comforting and homely waiting room environment. The product interface gives train commuters full control over their own personal lighting.
Daniel Culyer
I am a confident, personable and outgoing individual who enjoys working and interacting with others. I’ve played team sports all my life and so I particularly enjoy working collaboratively as part of a work group where design ideas can be shared, suggestions offered and critiques provided.
My early concept generation is valued by colleagues as a design asset. However my greatest strength lies in producing high-quality visuals/ app interfaces and then presenting these in a professional and compelling manner. Like most designers, I am a perfectionist and take pride in developing the design nuances that makes my work stand out. And at the core of my passion for design lies the desire to create desirable products that excite people, improve lives and make a real difference to the world we live in. I hope to use this passion as I pursue what I hope will be a successful career as an industrial designer!
