Ben Cook
Commercially minded industrial designer who is motivated by creating meaningful products which focus on the user and adds benefit to society.
Every three minutes globally one person will develop dementia. It severely affects cognitive functions and currently has no cure. At present there are insufficient carers in the UK to look after dementia sufferers. I chose the dementia area to address the urgent social needs and lack of personal care. domar (Daily Organisation Music And Relaxation) assists sufferers by using audio and visual reminders to stimulate the brain to perform basic daily tasks. It can track the wearer’s location for safety reasons putting family members at ease, alert issues and play music to reduce anxiety.
At the outset I knew little about dementia requiring me to adapt quickly and draw upon my personal experiences. My strengths are being a task orientated industrial designer with efficient project management capabilities. I am keen on originality and making products functional using software packages (Adobe, Solidworks, Keyshot), user experience and technical knowledge. My aim is to become a designer either in an industrial or bespoke design team accommodating a wide variety of user needs.
