F1 fan integration device
Through the use of text based information, infographs, lights and haptic feedback the device helps to improve the users understanding of the session they are watching. Showing the user timing data, weekend information, specific car characteristics and more. The device would be available to rent at F1 Grand Prix events and can be returned to the rental booth to charge ready for use the following day.
F1 fan integration device - main display
The main display shows the current sessions timing information, the user can also turn the dial to swap to championship order for both driver and constructors championships.
F1 fan integration device - driver comparison screens
The driver comparison screens allow the user to focus on two drivers and compare the data from their respective cars. Such as speed, gear selection, current tyre and DRS status.
F1 fan integration device - secondary display
The secondary display shows contextual strategy information relating to the two chosen drivers such as pit stop strategy, qualifying lap comparisons and tyre wear. As well as this, general information about the session such as weather or a map of the circuit can also be viewed.
F1 fan integration device - strap
The device also features a strap on the back which enables a secure grip when holding the device for longer periods of time. Rails on the rear of the device allow the strap to be moved to each side of the product for both left and right handed users.
F1 fan integration device - stand
Another feature on the rear of the device is the stands. These allow the device to be positioned independently, freeing up the user's hands, for easy viewing when sat at the side of the track or back in the campsite.
Live Projects - modular wifi router
This product was designed around modular principles to allow for user customisation of their wifi router. With different modules being on offer, such as 'Boost' a range extender module, 'Protect' for secure VPN connections, 'Vault' which provides network storage for secure backups and 'Accelerate' which contains high speed, short range 5ghz antennas.
Live Projects - modular wifi router
Another feature of the device is its ability to set up a mesh network. This can be done by connecting the 'Boost' module to a base station, boosting the wifi network to any area in the house with poor connection.
Alex Whitehead
I am a focused and motivated individual on course to graduate with a 2:1 in Industrial Design & Technology from Loughborough University. I am a hard-worker who strives for perfection in all areas of my work.
Through the combination of academic study and a 12-month work placement, I have developed a broad range of skills that enable me to contribute effectively in a professional environment. I am looking to extend my skill set in a design/product management capacity and look forward to the challenges that future employment will bring.
My specific interests lie in technological innovation of new concepts, for example a modular privacy focussed wifi router designed on the week long 'Live Projects' brief. Another main project is my Final Year Design Practice concept, this handheld device helps the user feel closer to the sport they love by providing them with key information and data helping them to better understand the race.

Experience
I held the position of Assistant Product Designer at Staverton UK from August 2018 – July 2019. Within this role, I contributed to all aspects of the design process from client relations and contract tendering, to production drawings and presentation booklets. I gained experience of working within a design team, whilst also taking responsibility for solo projects. I utilised my communication skills and design experience to develop effective working relationships with both clients and suppliers, and completed prototypes, high-quality visuals and product demonstrations to ensure a successful end result.
One of my key achievements lies in my involvement with a large-scale contract for an international media company. I worked with the client to ensure that I fully understood their needs, before developing detailed 3D models and manufactured drawings for both internal and external production. I ensured the cogency of this process by maintaining regular and effective communication with the client, my colleagues and suppliers.
