Sortex visual performance player
A VJ (Visual Disc Jockey) is an artist who works within a venue controlling the visuals behind a DJ. Colabourating with a friend over the last few years providing live visuals for events, I noticed a large gap in the industry. Usually venues do not supply the artists with enough technical information about the equipment setup prior to a show. Instead of hauling around an expensive laptop or heavy desktop that can get damaged, visual artists need a better hardware solution to work with. This product will be installed in venues across the world creating an industry standard yet fluid operating platform for VJ’s, reducing the setup times and technical uncertainties within the Industry.
The Neocore
The Neocore is the VJ’s personal memory drive. This is brought to every live performance and It is pre-synced before a live show from the VJ’s own material. This allows the VJ to arrange their visual compositions in advance. When arriving to the venue the Neocore is inserted into the front dock of the Sortex VPP-6000 and all of the new video material will sync using wireless conduction technology.
Personal interface layout
The VJ user can create their own personalised interface layout by unstacking and magnetically attaching the different modules together.
Performing
The Visual Performance Player would usually be placed at the back of a club by the technical control desks so the VJ can get a clear view of the visuals behind the DJ.
Internal components
The internal components are bolted to the main loop frame. The product runs high-end computing technology to be able to process the data rich visual files in real-time. On the back of the product are many different inputs to suit all the VJs needs.

Existential Pleasures Present: DYSTOPIA
Existential Pleasures is a creative and explorative visual design entity which myself and a graphic designer colleague founded to provide Motion Graphics and Live Visuals. This is a picture of an event where we transformed 'Rat Alley' (Kazimier Garden, Liverpool) into an immersive world, inspired by films such as Blade Runner, Enter the Void and Only God Forgives. Projections and props generated the look of a future in which Western and Eastern cultures merge into a futuristic dystopian city. Adverts were created referencing the merging of companies from the East and West which were projected high on the sides of surrounding buildings. Old television sets played our own visuals which posed questions to viewers regarding their current relationships with technology.
Existential Pleasures Present: ARTIFICIAL ENVIRONMENTS
‘Artificial Environments’ was a Club Night concept which sought to explore a future vision of the world were natural environments are emulated and enhanced by technology. Visuals were created using a specialized software in order to create strange, hyper-realistic environments in which a camera was flown through. The night featured a range of DJ’s who provided the audio soundscape as the ultra-wide visuals were displayed over three large projector screens creating an immersive experience for the dancing audience. I have worked in the Netherlands where I contributed to projects in different areas and aspects of Industrial Design. In Germany my work focused on UX design.
