Final year design project - proposal render
This project was developed to help cyclists to produce their own energy gels. Many athletes struggle to digest off the shelf products, especially during intense exercise. Allowing athletes to engage with the process gives them increased control over what goes in their body.
Final year design project - exploded view
One of the highlights of developing this project was designing for manufacture. A full CAD assembly was developed based around commercial costing and prototyping, which allowed me to grow in my knowledge of end use part design.
Sauchiehall Street - "The Avenues Project"
During my placement , I was fortunate enough to be Lead Project Engineer designing 15 metre sculptures to be installed on Glasgow's famous Sauchiehall Street. Collaborating with Signify Lighting and Fabrikat was a fantastic experience, requiring critical thinking and creative problem solving.
Automated aeropress
The Automated Aeropress was also a final year project. The brief was to automate the AeroPress coffee brewing tool. This project allowed me to demonstrate my electro-mechanical prototyping skills. Working as a part of a team required good project planning and delegation, which allowed us to deliver a functioning artifact on time.
Final year design project - sketch development
This sketch development work was undertaken in the early stages of the project, to evaluate prototypes and continue to develop the end product. Sketching lets me make fast changes and suggestions, when critical decisions are needed quickly.
Final year design project - food delivery containers
Reducing waste was one of the key drivers to this project, so a way of sustainably storing and delivering the food needed to be developed. Working on this refillable container required extensive user testing, as well as ensuring it met the requirements in my product specification.
Final year design project - prototyping & evaluation
Building an electro-mechanical prototype was a key part of this project, to allow comprehensive user testing to take place. Working within the small form factor of the product was a challenge, which required attention to detail and careful consideration of assembly order.
Final year - design week
These renders were created during a one week design challenge, following a brief to make an existing product modular for improved customization. I observed a problem with the classic vacuum flask, where users complained that using stronger tasting liquids within the flask would contaminate the taste of the bottle. I developed a range of products which allowed the customer to design the flask they want, including a removable insert for different liquids. I thrive when working to short deadlines, and am able to deliver good, consistent design under time pressure.
Isaac Robinson
Design from the inside out has been my methodology for a while now, but that doesn't mean that aesthetics are compromised. I aim to deliver projects which are practical, and beautiful!
My design work is always driven by a need, and the tools I use on projects are selected to serve the process. My use of sketching allows me to quickly communicate and evolve idea's when working with clients. I'm a people person, able to build relationships with customers, creating a healthy environment from which design can flow. When it comes to manufacture of prototypes and end products, I have extensive experience of different processes, ranging from polymer molding to sheet metal fabrication. Regardless of what my design future holds, I want to find ways to use my design ability to bring life to companies, products and people.

Awards
'20 Diploma in Professional Studies
After my first year of Undergraduate study, I received the Loughborough Design School Award of Academic Excellence as a recognition for consistent high quality of work.
Experience
My Industrial Placement Year was undertaken at Fabrikat Nottingham Ltd; a metal fabrication company. My role was to serve as a bridge between sales teams and manufacture teams, to ensure that there was continuity through every stage of the project. This allowed me to develop my ability to work with clients, creating solutions which filled their needs, not mine. I had the opportunity to spend large amounts of time with people with a high level of skill when it comes to commercial manufacturing, and was able to learn a wide variety of skills from them, from project management to process selection. Examples of things I designed throughout my time at Fabrikat include a prayer wall for St Georges Hospital London, mounting solutions for Selfridges London, and Lighting Sculptures for Sauchiehall Street Glasgow (see below for more detail).
