Emba: ambient mood lighting
There are an estimated 300,000 dwelling fires each year in the UK, of which only 25% are put out by the fire service. Despite this, it’s evident that many homeowners do not own a fire extinguisher and those that do, often store them hidden out of sight in locations that are inaccessible when a fire arises. My product provides an inclusive solution that encourages ownership of fire extinguishers through its primary use as a contemporary lamp.
Emba: fire detection
If a fire arises, an integrated heat alarm will detect the fire and signal a red strobing light and audio alarm, allowing the user to easily find the device.
Emba: fire extinguisher
The user can easily remove and configure the product into its fire extinguisher state, with an efficient and methodical safety lock that prevents accidental use.
Emba: exploded view
Emba has been designed for reusability. Users can easily disassemble the product to replace the extinguishing agent or CO2 canister.
Cycl: recycling your organic waste
Cycl enables the recycling of organic kitchen waste into the growth of fresh herbs and vegetation. The device integrates an odourless food waste bin within a natural hydroponic system. This uses a Japanese fermentation method known as Bokashi to produce organic fertiliser for the plants.
Cycl: Bokashi fermentation
The user fills the bin with their organic food waste, whilst simultaneously adding the provided Cycl 'Effective Microorganisms'. The anaerobic reaction created generates organic fertiliser that can be drained by the user every few days. When added to the water tank, this fertiliser provides the required nutrients for the hydroponic garden.
Cycl: seedling enclosure & hydroponic garden
Cycl features a seedling enclosure that allows air to circulate whilst retaining heat and moisture, creating the perfect environment for germination. Once germinated, the seeds can be transferred to the hydroponic garden where the growth process is continued, assisted by the liquid fertiliser generated from the food waste bin.

The two Cycl units can be separated for optional storage versatility or tank removal. The tanks can easily be removed from the product so that they can be cleaned and maintained.

I am a highly motivated and diligent creative, with an obsession to detail across a variety of disciplines.
The ability to adapt, refine and progress throughout the development process is something that I thrive off.
My work is often focused around the development of human design and interaction, whilst encouraging behaviour change with an eco-conscious mind. Having kick-started my career in the design industry through my placement year at Duku, I now have an extensive skill set and comprehensive understanding of the design development process. I have a keen interest in product styling and particularly enjoy developing minimal, self contained forms that house complex internal mechanisms. A collaborative, strategic and fast paced design environment will be the next step in my career as a product designer.
