Pulse - active gaming
Pulse is an active gaming set that combats the issues of prolonged gaming by allowing players to utilise their speed and agility skills to make game progress whilst away from their consoles.
Light and sound
Each sensor contains smart LEDs and a speaker to create exciting sound and visual effects that reflect the characteristics of the video game to which it is linked.
Race against other gamers
Pulse bridges the gap between the real and virtual world of gaming by allowing players to use their own physical abilities to play and earn points. Users race to beat virtual game characters or other players’ avatars.
Augmented reality
Using AR technology, an animated game environment is overlaid onto the user’s surrounding space. AR Object Recognition confirms each Pulse sensor is placed exactly in the required position. The total distance moved and tightness of turns is calculated to give a movement score specific to each layout.
Charging carry case
The Pulse sensors magnetically fix onto a portable charging dock when not in use.

I am a forward thinking individual with a profound interest in innovation. Having developed an interest in user needs and aesthetics, I hope to continue engaging in problem solving and further develop as a designer.
Children in the UK spend an average 15 hours a week playing video games such as Fortnite. Increased access to entertainment and digital play has fundamentally changed children’s movement patterns, isolating them indoors, most often in chairs. I was inspired by my cousins children who are passionate gamers, to take on the challenge of designing a product that combats the issues associated with prolonged gaming.
